Ten Day Hiatus
I've only been back here in this space for ten days, and now I'm splitting for another ten. We're headed north for a much-needed vacation. Decided to save some money this year and avoid flying and car renting. With all the shit coming down in the airports now, it was a prescient decision. The extra gas costs are a small price to pay.
We're going to be touring through the Cascade Mountain range up in Oregon, with a brief stay in Portland sandwiched in the middle. We'll be touching base there with Jill's cousin, Chuck Tauman, about whom I blogged back in'02 when he was nominated for Trial Lawyer of the Year for his work in a landmark anti-tobacco case. Chuck's now working on a case that's going all the way to the US Supreme Court, so it will be interesting to hear about that.
I notice that Frank Paynter was just up there himself. I'll check out his posts for any good tips.
Before departing, I'll put up another Anniversary Archive (see below). What I like about doing this is the opportunity to go back and re-visit some of the great bloggers.
See ya in a week-and-a-half!

Ben says eat at Lucy's Tables. They were closed Sunday night so we didn't get to try them. Had a good time at the Rose Garden, but the Japanese Garden is skippable because it is so crowded it is more a lock-step march than a contemplative stroll. Years ago we enjoyed a drive up past Shasta as far as Eugene then east into the Cascades onto the Centennial Trail past the high mountain lakes... huckleberry picking at Cultus Lake, down through Bend, west back to the five and we headed home...
Our drive up the north side and down the south side of the Columbia River Gorge was gorgeous... the waterfalls were wonderful... It's about an hour drive out to the coast from Portland and the feel of it is quite differnt from our Northern California rugged shores.
It's beautiful up there and I'm jealous. The mountainous stretch from Weed to Eugene is kind of tiring. Old 99 between Eugene and Salem robably doesn't take much longer than the interstate and it's lightly traveled and beautiful Willamette Valley stuff.
Enjoy yourselves!!!

Huh. All of you guys are heading for Portland and no one is stopping in to say Hi to theonetruebix and give him a hug from his mom. Oh well, maybe next time.
